Julius Nicholas

Julius Emanuel Nicholas was born on July 22, 1946, in Chester, PA to the late Rev. Ross Berry and Rev. Julia Bell Nicholas.  On Thursday, January 10, 2019, he transitioned from his earthly home to reside in his eternal estate. Julius began his education in the Chester Area School District. He later moved with his family to Media, PA where he attended and graduated from Media High School in 1964. Julius was an exceptional athlete and received many honors and awards.  He was recently inducted into the Media Area Sports Hall of Fame for Track and Field.  He went on to further his education attending Mansfield State College and Swarthmore College. In 1965, he began to date the love of his life, Elise Showell whom he later married in May of 1966.  Less than 2 weeks later, he was drafted into the US Army and served in Korea and Vietnam. Julius was employed by The Delaware County Daily Times as a Staff Writer for many years. He also wrote articles for the Philadelphia Tribune.  He was an electronic engineer, computer technician, and entrepreneur.  He taught courses in Introductory Level Computers at Care Center for Christ.  He was a transportation provider for the Chester County Housing Authority. Julius was self-taught in many areas of the arts and sciences.  He was often contracted for his services as a singer/musician, composer, portrait artist, photographer, painter, and technician.  Julius enjoyed walking for miles throughout the borough of West Chester. On his walks, he would take many pictures and met fellow travelers along the way.  He was a community activist, child advocate, and most importantly, a family man. Julius is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elsie; eight children, Marquita Bobo (Steven), Chester, PA , Orisha Nicholas (Vance), Parkesburg, PA, Tiri Nicholas, West Chester, PA, Mikal Nicholas, Wilmington, DE, Halifa Nicholas-Wesley (Larry), West Chester, PA , Joshua Nicholas (Courtney), Sicklerville, NJ, Arifah Nicholas, Coatesville, PA, Tahira Nicholas, Coatesville, PA; 23 grandchildren and one great-grand child; four siblings, Rev. Dr. Cleona Jackson (Ira – deceased), Justine Lampkins (Ralph), Philip Nicholas (Brenda), Lonnie Nicholas (Patricia); and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. Julius was the fourth of seven children and was preceded in death by his parents, Ross & Julia B. Nicholas, Sr., and siblings Zonia Nicholas and Ross Berry Nicholas Jr. He will be greatly missed, and his memory will forever remain in our hearts.
