Frank was a veteran of the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam before coming to Swarthmore for the 1970 fall semester. He had previously attended Dartmouth College. According to an obituary in the Rockford Register-Republic, Frank, a native of Rockford, Illinois,  died on February 6, 1971 at the age of 22 of injuries sustained when his car slid out of control on ice near Philadelphia.
